SALEM: THE GATEWAY to NEW HAMPSHIRE

The Salem Town Seal, with its motto, "Industry, Commerce, Recreation," serves as a perfect backdrop for the community's unique assets - location, accessibility, unspoiled natural resources and a pro-business attitude. It's a combination that will serve as a guide to prosperity well into the new century.

Salem mixes small town, rural living with the advantages offered by a city. Add to that being located in "the most livable" state in the country, one of the most favorable business climates anywhere, easy access to Boston (not to mention the entire Northeast and Canada) and an educated, highly motivated and dedicated workforce and you have the ideal place to live, work and raise a family.

Mission Statement:

The Town of Salem, as the Gateway to New Hampshire, is dedicated to continuously improving the quality of life for all residents by promoting its location, accessibility, unspoiled natural resources, and pro-business attitude.

Beliefs:

  • We will ensure that our municipal services are second to none.

  • We will champion the advantages of rural living by acknowledging and promoting policies and programs that stress the importance of the family and thus the community.

  • We are committed to providing comprehensive services that add value to the health, safety and general well-being of the community.

  • We will maximize the human and natural resources of the community by supporting the need for a well educated, highly motivated, and dedicated workforce.

Meet the Board of Selectmen:

The duty of the Board of Selectmen, as per RSA 41:8, is to "manage the prudential affairs of the town". The Board of Selectmen establish policies, set the long term goals and direction for the provision of municipal services, and review and authorize budgetary expenditures and other appropriations deemed necessary for municipal services.

While the members of the Board of Selectmen are not generally in the administrative offices during the day, any inquiries, concerns, or issues can be addressed by the Administrative staff and/or the Town Manager, Jonathan Sistare. In addition, the Selectmen may be reached at their homes, if desired, or you may mail correspondence to them at the Salem Town Hall, 33 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079. Currently, the individuals serving as your Board of Selectmen are:
  • Arthur E. Barnes, III, Chairman, 603-893-4754, term ends March 2012
